At Really NEET part of our great success with these young people is the holistic approach to solving their disengagement from education. We know from deep experience that there is usually a variety of factors involved in a young person not being in education. To really help these young people in regaining their education we have to help them to breakdown these barriers so that they can move forwards with their lives.

Our core-subjects (Maths and English) are combined with our vocational offer which include highly practical qualifications that engage learners that struggle in a mainstream setting. For example, our creative craft qualification allows learners to express themselves through art and has a therapeutic value.

Our engagement activities are a reward system for young people who engage in their classroom-based lessons. The Engagement activities are a chance for the young people to practise play.

Play allows young people to use their creativity while developing their imagination, dexterity, and physical, cognitive and emotional strength. Play is important to healthy brain development. It is through play that young people are able to interact and engage in the world around them and learn the vital social skills to becoming a contributing member of wider society. Our engagement activities include things like horse riding, bowling, go karting, archery, foot golf and many more!

Each programme will come together with a life changing leadership residential which equips learners with the skills needed to, not only work in a team but also to lead a team, enabling them to build on their employability skills it also gives them a sense of belonging.

For many young people this is the first time they have ever left their town or city broadening their view of the world. Activities include; Gyll Scrambling, Rock Climbing, High Ropes, Kayaking, Raft Building, Zip Wire and so much more.

Many of our young people live in children’s homes, hostels and women refuges without the support to get up and out of bed in the morning. Others have social, emotional and mental health barriers that prevent them leaving the house independently. To combat this, we provide a home pick-up/drop-off service which is crucial to the learner’s engagement and attendance. In time we can provide travel training to enable them to become more independent preparing them for future education, training and employment.

1:1 & 2:1 SESSIONS

Some of our young people are not ready for group-based learning due to their complex barriers e.g. mental health issues or/and learning difficulties. In these circumstances we are able to offer a personalised programme that incorporates 2:1 and 1:1 session’s enabling us to have a highly inclusive programme that can meet the needs of even the hardest to reach young people. Our one-to-one sessions can happen in the learner’s home, local library, Really NEET site when its empty. Being able to deliver sessions in the home has enabled us to work with learners that are completely housebound. These personalised sessions are implemented for those learners who require it across our 3 different sites in Barnsley, Rotherham and London.
